Queens of the Stone Age Have Coffee, Ice Cream
Posted by Frymaster in Arts, Kafe Lila, Machines with Magnets, Music, tags: 02860Of course, you knew already that Pawtucket was the epicenter of RI culture. Where else but in a scene-in-the-making is it news when a few people have sweets with afternoon tea, or coffee, as it were?
This story consists entirely of 3rd hand information. Naturally, I was out of the office when, sources tell me:
About 8 or so people from the Queens of the Stone Age tour dropped into Kafe Lila for a nosh. Those people included QotSA’s motive force Josh Homme and, for some reason, Fred Durst.
In addition to Italian sodas and gourmet coffee drinks, Kafe Lila offers all kinds of top-shelf foodstuffs, including super-fresh salads and sandwiches, homemade baked goods and homemade ice cream. The general tendency is toward healthy choices, and there’s plenty of vegan offerings. Sources tell me that the ice cream was in high demand and duly impressed our notable visitors.
Queens of the Stone Age are on an East Coast tour hitting Providence on 10/9. As part of the promotion on WBRU, they had been up the block at recording studio and gallery Machines with Magnets doing a small, acoustic recording session. Only a handful of winners of a WBRU call-in contest got to crowd into the small recording space to watch.
Any actual witnesses are welcome to comment and correct me where I err in my account. Anybody have a picture?

I saw them come in, but did not go into the Kafe to see them… honestly, I was busy. I wanted to meet them, but so often, meeting celebrities is disappointing. I will say, that quite by accident, I was listening to the Eagles of Death Metal (one of Josh Homme’s side project) when they came in… and it was cranked pretty loud.
